      Upcoming Event - Hiking - Sunday, September 28, 2014

3.5 mile hike - Bear Swamp State Forest - Sempronius, NY

Join me as I lead the members of the Syracuse Area Outdoors Adventure Club , a Meetup Group, on a 3.5 mile easy-to-moderate hike. If you are a member of that group, sign up on their Meetup website. Not a member? Contact me for a reservation through Roger@RogerFulton.com.

      • Bear Swamp

Parking area corner of Iowa Rd and Bear Swamp Rd., Sempronius, NY
      • Strongly suggest you find your way to Iowa Road, just north of Sempronius on Route 41A. Take Iowa Road 1.5 miles to Bear Swamp Road. Turn left and go .2 miles to the parking area. GPS: N 42 44.201, W 076 17.102.

      • I know, some of you have never heard of Sempronius. It's not that far from Syracuse. (Check a map and follow directions above.) But how can you resist a Fall hike in a place called Bear Swamp State Forest? This will be an easy to moderate hike with an elevation change of only about 200 feet. We will start on trails and come back on a seasonal road. Along the way we will pay our respects to a veteran of the Civil War from Sempronius.
Bring a snack and/or a beverage to enjoy after the hike.

Safe in the Woods Presentation - September 13, 2-5 pm

As a friend and colleague you are personally invited to attend a FREE pilot seminar titled Safe in the Woods based upon my upcoming book of the same name. In a series of Powerpoint presentations, it will cover the basics of how to explore natural areas and trails safely, from the Cascade Mountains to the Florida swamps. So whether you are out for a casual walk, a short hike or a more adventurous outing, this presentation could help you or others to prevent serious problems. Topics include what you need to be prepared to go out into the woods, how to read trail markings, and what to do if you do get disoriented or lost. Call or e-mail to discuss or schedule. 386-956-6089, afternoons or evenings, or Roger@RogerFulton.com.
If you cannot personally attend you may enroll another person, at least 16 years of age, who may have an interest in and benefit from such a training program. Class size is very limited, so reserve a spot very soon for yourself or someone else.

The seminar will be held on Saturday, September 13th from 2-5 pm at Lime Hollow Nature Center, 338 McLean Road, Cortland, NY 13045.
