Upcoming Nature Hike - Malloryville Preserve, Malloryville, NY May 20 3-5 pm

Join  with members of the Ithaca Hiking and Nature Study Meetup group for a couple of short "learning"  hikes at the O.D. Von Engeln Preserve at Malloryville
If you don’t know the difference between a marsh, a swamp, a fen or a bog, this short hike will help you learn the differences. And if you don’t know about the glacial terms such as eskers, kames and kettles, this area will educate you on those terms as well.
Although the trails are short, this unique area has some great geological features crammed into a very small preserve. We will only cover about 2 miles of fairly easy terrain but you will learn something at every turn. Adults only and no dogs. Good footwear and long pants are recommended. Bug spray if you are so inclined. Heavy rain or lightning cancels.

Physical address: 106 W. Malloryville Road, Malloryville, NY (between Cortland and Ithaca)
Directions: From I-81 take Exit 12, Homer/Cortland and follow Route 281 South for 3.2 miles and turn right onto McLean Road. Follow it 6.2 miles and turn right onto W. Malloryville Road. Follow it .5 miles and turn right into the O.D. Von Engeln Preserve parking area.

North American Woodcock Mating Displays

Great night at Logan Hill Nature Preserve in Candor, NY learning about the North American Woodcock's mating rituals and displays with the Finger Lakes Land Trust folks. Calls, dances and flight displays up to 350 feet in the air. Google it on youtube to see its displays.
